Fully Insured?
In BC, it’s very simple to find out if a company is fully insured by WorkSafe BC. We’ve included quick instructions showing you how, but why should you?
We’ve all heard the stories about homeowners corralling friends or hiring a cheap trades person or moving company to get some work for them.
When things go well, everything is beautiful… but what happens if a friend or worker gets injured? And how are you affected if they don’t have coverage from WorkSafeBC?
A homeowner may find themselves facing an awkward liability issue.
It doesn’t happen often, but more often than you might think.
If you hire workers to work in or around your home, you essentially become their employer, even for just casual labour. If they are not registered with WorkSafeBC, you could be required to pay all compensation costs.
If you’ve hired a moving company that hasn’t covered their employees with WorkSafeBC, they, not you, are likely responsible, but we think it’s safe to say, how they treat their employees infers how they treat their customers.
